MS in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Studies (DHHS)

The Davies School of Communication Sciences & Disorders offers a MS in deaf and hard of hearing studies (DHHS). A degree in DHHS offers many career opportunities in the education of children with hearing impairments. The MS in DHHS at TCU is a unique program that offers the opportunity to be certified as an educator of the deaf and hard of hearing at all levels. Teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing develop expertise in language acquisition and the unique learning and communication needs of their students. While in the DHHS program, you will gain the knowledge and experience needed to enhance the teaching and learning of deaf or hard of hearing students through their clinical and classroom settings.

Our graduates typically obtain employment immediately upon graduation, as there is a great need for educators of the deaf and hard of hearing throughout the United States. The purpose of the curriculum leading to a MS in deaf and hard of hearing studies is to encourage critical thinking, scientific inquiry and interprofessional collaboration. You will also be prepared to work within a global community in preparation for careers in the education of individuals with hearing impairments in general education of students from 8th to 12th grade.

Our Program

Unique to other programs in Texas, the MS in deaf and hard of hearing studies at TCU leads to the opportunity for dual certifications in all-Level DHH and either general education (EC-6) or secondary English language arts. Upon the successful completion of this program, you will have the opportunity to work as a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing or a middle school or high school teacher in the area of English language arts.
