Registered nurse is ranked #22 in best jobs.
In addition to clinicals, nursing students are able to gain additional hospital experience by participating in nurse externship programs and patient care technician (PCT) job opportunities. Nurse externships are 10-12-week summer programs offered by some hospitals to provide direct patient care experience and extra patient education classes. You must have completed two semesters of clinical and be returning in the fall as a senior to be eligible. Patient care technician opportunities are PRN positions offered year-round by all area hospitals. You’ll gain unit-based experience while providing direct patient care. You are eligible for PCT jobs after completing one semester of clinical.
