Two professors in the Davies School of Communication Sciences & Disorders in Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences received awards this year from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Jennifer Watson, emeritus professor in COSD, was recently announced as receiving Honors of the Association, and Emily Lund, professor in COSD, received fellowship of the association.
Professor Emily Lund was recently named a finalist for the Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Achievement as a Creative Teacher and Scholar, in recognition of her exceptional accomplishments.
The Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Achievement as a Creative Teacher and Scholar recognizes exceptional accomplishments of faculty members for their outstanding contributions to teaching and scholarship. The award was established to acknowledge the extraordinary creative teaching and high-quality research that occurs within the university's academic disciplines.
What started as a doctoral dissertation nearly a decade ago has now evolved into a federally funded reearch project to bridge the gap in bilingual speech-language pathology and vocabulary development for young children.
Texas Christian University Associate Professor Jean Rivera Perez and Professor Emily Lund are recipients of a five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health – National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIH/NIDCD) totaling a projected $2.72 million.
Nikki Hoopes and Daniel Ibarra, second-year Ph.D. students from the Davies School of Communication Sciences & Disorders, have received a highly competitive grant for research that holds personal meaning to each of them. They are the first TCU students to receive the Student Research Grant in Early Childhood Language Development from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation). Only five recipients were awarded the national grant in 2025.
On October 11, The Zoota Family Leaders in Parkinson’s Disease speaker series will host Dr. Ray Dorsey, Director of the Center for Brain & Environment Atria Health & Research Institute and Professor at the University of Rochester, to present, "The Parkinson's Plan." By engaging the TCU and Dallas-Fort Worth communities, Dr. Dorsey will expand our knowledge of Parkinson’s disease and how we can help prevent it through the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the lifestyles we live.

Lund’s research focuses on remediating early language and literacy deficits in children who use hearing aids and cochlear implants. Up to 15 percent of children in the U.S. have some hearing loss by the time they are 18 years old. Even a mild loss during early childhood has a significant the impact on literacy.

Texas Christian University is hosting its 10th Annual Chance to Dance, a free prom-like event for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the Brown-Lupton University Union on TCU’s campus.
