Our Pledge

Harris United is committed to enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) throughout the college. The committee supports, facilitates and celebrates efforts to improve understanding and respect across students, faculty and staff.

Harris Book Club

Conversations about DEI are essential for creating more equitable, inclusive and successful organizations and societies. They facilitate learning, growth and positive change at both individual and collective levels.

To achieve this, Harris United facilitates a college-wide book club including students, staff and faculty each fall. Complimentary books are distributed to the first 50 respondents before the winter break and opportunities to engage in dialogue are offered early in the spring semester.

Books read to date:

  • 2023 "The Color of Law" by Richard Rothstein
  • 2022 "How to be an Antiracist" by Ibram Kendi
  • 2021 "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo

Harris United Committee

Harris United is Harris College’s DEI committee. We aim to support the college’s mission statement: To impact global health through equitable, accessible, and inclusive education, scholarship and innovation.

The 2023 TCU Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award was presented to Lynita Yarbrough for her work as the founding diversity advocate for Harris College. In this role, she has led efforts to realize the inclusive excellence for which the college and the university as a whole are striving.
