The Department of Kinesiology was well represented at the annual NASPSPA (North American Society of Sport and Physical Activity) conference held in Waikoloa, Hawaii. In addition to faculty projects, an undergraduate research assistant, current graduate student, and an alumnus presented at the conference amongst hundreds of other professionals and students.
Diego Rivera, with travel supported the Department of Kinesiology, STEM Scholars, and McNair program, presented on how different practice environments promote the learning of new motor skill.
Kuanting Chen, Kinesiology graduate student, presented on work occurring in the Motor Behavior Lab that focuses on the application of visual feedback and its impact on improving standing balance.
Alumnus Joei Velten, 2018 – Sports Psychology, was also in attendance as part of her doctorate degree program at the University of Tennessee.
Also, alumnus Cristina Cariveau, 2021 – Movement Science, was in attendance at the conference and was able to show the group around her hometown of Kona.
Faculty members – Drs. Esposito, King and Trocchio – enjoyed the return to an in-person conference and connected with colleagues from across the country and even internationally. The research conducted by the three Kinesiology faculty members covered all the content areas of the NASPSPA conference – Motor Development (Esposito), Motor Control and Learning (King), and Sport and Exercise Psychology (Trocchio). The collective works from current and former TCU students as well as faculty from the conference are listed below.
