Fort Worth Report recently told the story of how volunteers celebrated Earth Day by picking up litter at Glenwood Park in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside neighborhood. The cleanup was hosted by the Fort Worth Climate Safe Neighborhoods Coalition, started by TCU faculty members and residents in 2022.
The Coalition aims to increase equitable access to safe, sustainable green space, advance tree equity and extend environmental knowledge throughout the city of Fort Worth. Its desired outcome is sustained investment in green spaces for everyone in our city.
The Fort Worth Parks and Recreation Department recently committed resources toward the development of a Glenwood Park master plan to begin later this year or early 2024, marking a crucial first step in this investment.

“Equitable investment in parks benefits both human health, through the mental and physical benefits of nature, and planetary health – a nature-based solution to climate change,” said TCU Nursing Associate Professor, Dr. Gina Alexander.
