As commencement approaches, Harris College graduates reflect on their time at TCU, each one carrying a unique narrative of growth, challenges and triumphs. From the bustling corridors of the classroom to the quiet intensity of preparing for their field experiences, they have honed their skills, forged lasting bonds and emerged as confident leaders in their fields.
Meet Nina Wilson, a Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) student.
Why did you choose your area of study?
I chose athletic training because I knew I wanted to pursue a career in health care but decided to combine it with my passion for sport.
What brought you to TCU?
I was looking all over Texas for graduate programs. After interviewing with Stephanie Jevas, Ph.D., and learning more about the MSAT program I knew TCU was where I wanted to be.
How did the Department of Kinesiology help prepare you for your future career?
Our program at TCU prepared us immensely by immersing us in a variety of clinical experiences with both TCU and non-TCU settings. In our second year of the program, we were allowed three 6-week immersive opportunities to seek experience outside of TCU Athletics at a site of our choosing. Through our extensive coursework and clinical experiences, I feel most prepared to leave TCU a successful athletic trainer.
Tell us about your proudest accomplishment while at TCU.
My proudest accomplishment while at TCU is that I am graduating with a 4.0 and passed my Board of Certification exam on the first try. I am also very proud that I secured and worked an NFL internship with the Houston Texans during training camp and pre-season 2023.
What are your plans after graduation?
I am working summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League. From there I am moving to Louisville, KY to work as a seasonal certified athletic trainer with the University of Louisville women’s rowing team.
Thank you to all of the professors, athletic trainers, and student athletes for trusting and supporting my growth as a certified athletic trainer! Go Frogs!
