Kinesiology Physical Education Courses

Juggling academics, social commitments and personal well-being can be challenging as a student. TCU’s “Physical Education Activity” courses offered by the Department of Kinesiology focus on fitness and lifetime recreational activities, giving students the opportunity to learn a new sport or improve current skill level.

We want to cultivate a community centered on well-being, integrity and excellence,” said Assistant Professor of Professional Practice Melissa Jensen, Ph.D

With most being 1-credit courses, students are offered a break from academic rigor, providing them with a movement-based learning experience that promotes stress relief and enhances health and wellness. Activities students can select from include:

  • Body Conditioning
  • Bowling
  • Camp
  • Climb
  • Golf
  • Jogging
  • Lifeguarding and CPR
  • Paddle
  • Racquetball
  • Rock Climbing
  • Scuba Diving
  • Swimming
  • Tennis
  • Weight Training

Research has demonstrated that regular physical activity can improve cognitive function, enhance memory and boost focus, which may contribute to improved academic performance,” adds Jensen.

In addition to enhancing mental and academic performance, the courses offer students the chance to build lifelong healthy habits. The courses provide a flexible way for students to incorporate fitness into their schedules while balancing academic responsibilities. With structured accountability, students commit to regular participation and must meet attendance requirements.

Open to all TCU students, some courses may take place off-campus or involve additional fees, with registration occurring during regular enrollment periods.

These courses empower students to gain knowledge, sharpen skills and adopt a balanced, healthy lifestyle that will serve them well beyond college.
