Charity Gates ’11 BSN, MSN, APRN, CPN, CNP joins Harris College as an assistant professor of professional practice in nursing marking a heartfelt return to her alma mater. With her deep ties to Fort Worth and extensive professional background, Gates is poised to make a meaningful impact on the next generation of TCU-educated nurses.
Although originally from Montana, Gates considers Fort Worth her home and has long been dedicated to the field of nursing.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from TCU and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Texas Tech University. Her extensive professional experience includes critical care, trauma, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and pediatrics. She has also served as an adjunct faculty member at TCU since 2022.
Research and Professional Impact
Gates’ research focuses on critical care, patient safety and enhancing the student experience. Her recent publication highlights the benefits of standardized bedside reporting in improving patient safety and involvement. Her commitment to these areas reflects her dedication to advancing nursing practice and education.

Returning to TCU, Gates is excited to contribute to a program that shaped her own career. She values TCU’s rigorous nursing program and aims to give back to the community that positively impacted her as a student.

I could not think of anywhere else but TCU,” shared Gates. “I remember the impact the amazing influence the faculty had on me as a student, and I could think of nowhere else where I would rather have that same impact on the next generation of nurses.”
Gates is eager to engage with students, staff and faculty, supporting and mentoring her students throughout their academic and professional journeys. She views her role at TCU as a partnership with her students and is dedicated to providing exceptional learning experiences.
