Senior Claudia Urbina was one of two students in the state selected to receive the Student Scholarship Award from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD).

“Being selected for the TAHPERD Student Award means so much to me,” said the Harris College kinesiology and John V. Roach Honors student. “It is incredibly rewarding to have my work and commitment to supporting adaptive P.E. recognized.”

The TAHPERD Foundation offers up to three $3,000 scholarships every year to undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in related fields at Texas colleges and universities.

“These scholarships are an investment in the next generation of educators and professionals who will help Texans lead healthy, active lives,” Rachel Naylor, executive director of the TAHPERD, said.

Urbina is currently completing a clinical student teaching rotation, is a lead marketing intern for TCU Football and is slated to graduate this December.

“This recognition motivates me to continue pursuing my goal of becoming an elementary adaptive P.E. teacher,” Urbina said. “I hope to create opportunities for all students, regardless of ability, to experience the joy of movement and play in P.E. class.”

Urbina will be recognized during the 103rd Annual TAHPERD Convention in Corpus Christi this December.
