I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from TCU in December 2019. However, before graduating with my BSN, I knew I would return to TCU for my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)! I had such a great undergraduate experience with the undergraduate faculty and knew I would have the same experience in graduate school.

Each year, the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) Mary Isham Keith Chapter (MIK) in Fort Worth awards a scholarship to a student in good academic standing chosen by TCU Nursing faculty.

The results are in! The U.S. News & World Report has ranked TCU #43 Best Graduate School for its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

TCU Nursing senior Geo Martinez was nominated by Abell-Hanger Professor of Gerontological Nursing Dennis Cheek, Ph.D., for his action in helping another TCU student with a hypoglycemic episode, and adjunct professor Haley Trainer, MSN, RN, nominated him for his work in the labor and delivery (L&D) clinical rotation at Texas Health Resources in Fort Worth.

SAGE is part of TCU’s Interprofessional Education, Research and Practice Initiative, IPREP. This is a unique opportunity for collaboration between students from various backgrounds and disciplines to create solutions for healthier communities and safer health care systems.

They say it’s all in a day’s work. TCU alum and Cook Children’s Medical Center Sarah Patzke Shaabani, ’14, RN was one of 25 medical professionals who recently helped perform the delicate operation of separating conjoined twins, a first for the Fort Worth pediatric hospital.

The “Public Health School Nurse Workforce Initiative” course within TCU Nursing takes a service-learning approach where students learn skills from experienced Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD (EMSISD) mentor nurses and, in turn, the students provide a sought-after and meaningful skill-based experience to EMSISD nurses.

Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences hosted Desiree A. Diaz, Ph.D., FNP-BC, CNE, CHSE-A, ANEF, FAAN as part of the W.F. “Tex” and Pauline Curry Rankin Lectureship in Nursing.

Dr. Dennis Cheek is the Abell-Hanger Professor of Gerontological Nursing, an endowed faculty appointment within TCU Nursing. Dr. Cheek came to TCU in the fall of 2003, making the fall of 2023 the start of his 20th year with the university.
